Serie A misfit to ‘wave goodbye’ on Monday as Newcastle ready to pick up sizeable tab

Aaron Ramsey Wales 2021 TEAMtalk1

Newcastle United may be about to land Aaron Ramsey after reports in Italy claimed he will say goodbye to his Juventus team-mates next week.

The 31-year-old is currently in the third year of a four-year deal with Juve signed in the summer of 2019. The Wales international’s time in Turin has not been an overwhelming success, with injuries hampering his progress. Unable to command a regular starting berth, the midfielder has made only 25 Serie A starts among 47 appearances.

And he has been a virtual spectator this term, with one start and just 97 minutes of top-flight football. Having bagged 64 goals from 369 outings at Arsenal, the Welshman has found the net only six times for the Old Lady.

And it seems as though his days in Italy are now numbered. Gazzetta dello Sport, per The Daily Star, are reporting that Ramsey is on his way back to the Premier League.

And the Italian outlet adds he will return to the club’s training ground on Monday only to bid farewell to his colleagues. There is no word on his destination but the Magpies have been mentioned as one possibility.

However, with Eddie Howe having money to spend after the Saudi-backed takeover, they are being linked with many players. Everton are also thought to be keen.

A report last month claimed the Toffees would be happy to pay his £230,000-a-week wage demands. Even that would be a significant drop from his current £400,000-per week pay packet.

Juventus stance makes Ramsey deal a no-brainer

Ramsey still has 18 months left to run on his Juve contract. However, reports claim the Italian giants are prepared to let him leave for nothing this month.

That is because they want to get his astronomical salary off their wage bill as soon as possible. They are forking out a fortune on a player who barely evens sits on the bench.

Newcastle would be able to offer him a healthy pay packet due to their voluminous bank account. And he could be the type of player who would make a different to their chances of survival.

The Tynesiders need players with experience who have the class to make a significant contribution over the second half of the campaign. Down in 19th spot in the standings, they cannot afford to wait too long before starting their climb to safety.

Kieran Tripper has been told he can leave Atletico Madrid and is another star thought to be on the Newcastle radar. Should the duo arrive, they will provide Howe with the class he has been missing since replacing Steve Bruce at the helm.
