Sources: Newcastle star frozen out by Howe travels for medical with Isaac Hayden exit terms revealed
Newcastle United midfielder Isaac Hayden has travelled to Belgium for talks and a medical with Standard Liege ahead of a loan move, TEAMtalk understands.
Hayden was close to moves to Luton Town and Sheffield Wednesday before the close of the transfer window, but he is now set to make the move to Belgium.
The 28-year-old has been deemed surplus to requirements at St James’ Park with the midfielder not having been given a spot in Eddie Howe’s plans and being forced to train away from the first-team squad.
Hayden has not played a game for Newcastle since the 2021-2022 season having spent last season out on loan with Norwich City, but he made only 14 appearances in the Championship with injuries hampering his time at Carrow Road.
The midfielder has racked up 171 total appearances for the Magpies, including 118 outings in the Premier League.
Arsenal youth product Hayden has been at Newcastle since 2016 and is under contract on Tyneside until June 2026 after penning a long-term deal before the club’s Saudi Arabian-led takeover.
Standard Liege are currently 13th in the Belgian Pro League, having lost three and drawn two of their opening five games in 2023-24.
The transfer window in Belgium remains open until September 6.
