Newcastle in talks over exquisite €60m signing from AC Milan as second deal for Liverpool cast-off emerges

Newcastle have made an offer to AC Milan for Sandro Tonali and he is not the only midfielder they want to take from a Serie A side, according to reports.

Tonali has now completed three seasons with Milan and the most recent was his busiest yet. Across all competitions, the talented midfielder made 48 appearances. But now, he faces a decision whether to continue at the club or not.

After all, SportItalia has revealed that Newcastle have put an offer on the table for Tonali. Their bid is believed to be worth somewhere between €60m and €65m, or £51.5m to £55.8m.

Milan are still said to be deliberating the offer, since they have Tonali under contract until 2027. Furthermore, they will owe a percentage of the fee they receive for the Italy international to his former club, Brescia.

In terms of negotiating with the player, Newcastle have offered to double Tonali’s salary, according to Milan News. Currently, the 23-year-old earns somewhere between €3m and €3.5m per season.

Therefore, Newcastle could be offering him a package somewhere between £99,000 and £116,000 per week.

An update from SportItalia has revealed that Tonali’s representatives have now travelled to England for further talks – even if they claim their visit is for other business.

Clarifying the claims about the contract on offer, it is revealed that Newcastle would be starting from a base fee of €6m per season or £99,000 per week. Bonuses could increase his earnings further.

Tonali’s contract at St. James’ Park would last for four or five years. Champions League football would be on offer in the first of those at least, just as it would be by staying at Milan – the team Tonali has supported since childhood.

Newcastle add Arthur to shopping list

Meanwhile, Newcastle have also become contenders to sign Arthur Melo from Juventus after his loan spell at Liverpool.

Arthur was unable to make his Premier League debut for the Reds due to injury issues. With no future back at Juventus, though, other English sides could offer him the next step.

Aston Villa were recently linked with Arthur. Now, Tutto Juve has explained that Newcastle have joined them in the race for the Brazil international.

Once again, Juventus might have to loan Arthur out rather than sell him. Newcastle could benefit by taking him temporarily for €5m (£4.3m) before having an option to buy at €20m (£17.2m).

In order to sweeten the deal, Newcastle would have to cover Arthur’s wages while they had him on loan.

Both Arthur and Tonali have played in the Champions League before. Newcastle need to equip themselves with players of appropriate experience as they prepare to enter the competition next season.

After finishing fourth in the Premier League, Newcastle have earned the right to compete in UEFA’s top tournament. Squad depth and marginal improvements to their starting lineup will be vital if they are to maintain their momentum across the board.

In midfield, they currently have Bruno Guimaraes, Joe Willock, Sean Longstaff and Joelinton as their main options.
