Newcastle in talks with Inter Milan to land sensational midfielder coup in deal that could cost £50m

Hakan Calhanoglu and Nicolo Barella

Newcastle are reportedly in talks with Inter Milan over a massive £50million move for midfielder Nicolo Barella and the club are confident of sealing the deal.

Toon boss Eddie Howe is known to be a huge fan of the Italy international, who impressed for Inter in the Champions League final loss to Manchester City on Saturday evening.

It’s claimed that a transfer could cost up to £50m for the 26-year-old, who has scored 20 goals in 187 games for Inter since signing from Cagliari in 2019.

The midfielder has also won 43 caps for his country and was part of their European Championship-winning team in 2021 when they beat England in the final on penalties at Wembley.

Barella could join James Maddison in a new-look Newcastle midfield as the St James’ Park outfit continue to chase the Leicester playmaker.

However, it appears they may have to re-evaluate their valuation of the player, having so far decided against paying Leicester’s whopping £60m asking price.

That could leave the door open for Tottenham to swoop, but with no European football in north London, Newcastle remain the overall favourites to land the England man.

Barella could join Maddison at Newcastle

Maddison will quit the King Power this summer following the Foxes’ relegation, it just remains to be seen where he ends up.

As for Barella, the Inter star was voted as the best midfielder in Serie A last season and his arrival in Tyneside would be a massive Coup for Howe and co.

The talented Inter man has previously been linked with Liverpool, but their capture of Alexis Mac Allister has subsequently ended Jurgen Klopp’s interest in Barella.
