Newcastle transfer mission underway for €45m duo as interest in attacking midfielder intensifies

Arda Guler and Ferdi Kadioglu

Newcastle United are stepping up their interest in Fenerbahce midfielder Arda Guler and have added his teammate Ferdi Kadioglu to their shortlist too, reports have claimed.

Fenerbahce are in action against Istanbulspor in the Turkish Super Lig on Monday evening. According to A Spor, Newcastle scouts are in attendance to cast an eye over Guler and Kadioglu.

Guler was recently linked with Newcastle and has apparently already been viewed by the club in person. Now, they are repeating that strategy to take a closer look at the attacking midfielder.

Not only is Guler on their scouts’ agenda, but so too is Kadioglu. A versatile player, he has started at right-back against Istanbulspor, but is also capable of operating further forward.

Guler has been deployed ahead of him on the right wing, which should also give Newcastle’s observers the chance to see how they can link up together.

In order to sign both of them, Newcastle might have to meet Fenerbahce’s combined asking price of €45million. In other words, the double deal could cost around £39.8m.

The Turkish source does not specify how much each player would be worth individually, or how close Newcastle might be willing to go towards Fenerbahce’s valuation.

Guler, 18, is in his second season with the Fenerbahce first team. He has already reached a half-century of appearances in their colours and there should be more to come, given that his contract is due to last until 2025.

However, Fenerbahce are already bracing themselves for interest in their number 10. It appears Newcastle could be among the prime contenders to offer him a new challenge elsewhere.

Kadioglu, meanwhile, has been with Fenerbahce for longer. Born in the Netherlands, he originally joined them from NEC Nijmegen in July 2018.

Now 23 years old, the Turkey international has amassed 140 appearances for the club, where he remains under contract until 2026.

Newcastle battle Ajax for double Fenerbahce raid

Perhaps this summer, Newcastle could come up with offers to prise the pair away. However, they will not be the only suitors for each player.

Indeed, A Spor suggests they are both on the radar of Ajax in the Eredivisie as well. More clubs could come into the equation if Guler and Kadioglu keep impressing between now and the end of the season.

Fenerbahce are currently second in the Turkish Super Lig table. Consequently, they have a good chance of being in one of the UEFA competitions next season.

But Newcastle are also in one of their strongest positions in recent memory. Champions League qualification now looks more than achievable after their big win over Tottenham Hotspur on Sunday.

Therefore, they could represent an attractive destination for promising young talents like Guler and Kadioglu. Whether their interest will develop into anything more concrete, though, remains to be seen.
