Newcastle transfer news: Fabrizio Romano reveals big-money deal agreed for Reims striker Hugo Ekitike
Newcastle United appear to have got their man after transfer expert Fabrizio Romano tweeted that the club have agreed a five-year deal with Reims striker Hugo Ekitike.
The cash-rich Magpies wanted to bring in the frontman during the January window. And Romano states that only the finer details need to be confirmed before the deal is officially signed off.
Newcastle look to have beaten German giants Borussia Dortmund to the signing, with Foot Mercato stating that the fee will be worth around £31million, with £8.5million in add-ons.
The 19-year-old, who has been likened to Kylian Mbappe and Thierry Henry, is regarded as the next big thing in French football.
Ekitike was on loan at Danish side Velje in the early stages of 2021. However, his rapid rise looks set to pocket him a big payday.
The forward has scored 10 goals in 24 Ligue 1 games this season, while also adding four assists.

Ekitike adds to Newcastle strike force
Ekitike is expected to compete with the likes of Callum Wilson and Chris Wood at St James’ Park.
However, there is a feeling that he may take a little time to adjust to the Premier League.
Ekitike also looks set to be one of several Newcastle additions this summer after Eddie Howe guided them from relegation trouble to an 11th-placed finish in the Premier League this season.
