Newcastle turn Osimhen raid into a double with second deal to push outlay over £100m

Napoli trio Matteo Politano, Fabian Ruiz and Victor Osimhen

Newcastle recently despatched an official to monitor known striker target Victor Osimhen, though a report claims he’s not the only Napoli star on their radar.

The Magpies splashed out over £90m in the January window in a taste of what’s to come at St. James’ Park. Their new additions have all played a part in Newcastle pushing themselves closer to safety. Barring a late-season meltdown, it looks odds-on Newcastle will beat the drop.

And with their Premier League status set to be secured, the true scale of Newcastle’s financial might could be unleashed this summer.

Indeed, widespread reports have put Newcastle in the frame to land Napoli ace Victor Osimhen.

The Nigerian, 23, has operated at close to one goal in two since moving to Naples from Lille in 2020.

There is little doubt Osimhen would be capable of replicating those figures into the Premier League.

As such, Newcastle, along with Manchester United, Arsenal and Tottenham, have all drawn links.

A whopping £84m asking price has been floated around across the media. That would make many clubs wince, but not Newcastle.

Napoli would understandably be reluctant to lose their star man. But if a gaudy offer is lodged, the writing may be on the wall.

Newcastle eyeing Osimhen, Fabian Ruiz double

Now, Sport Witness provide an update on Newcastle’s pursuit, though reveal fellow Napoli star Fabian Ruiz is also in their crosshairs.

The information stems from a local newspaper in Naples, with the article noting Newcastle had an ’emissary’ at Napoli’s clash with AC Milan earlier in March.

The Magpies official was tasked with monitoring midfielder Fabian Ruiz – as well as Osimhen.

Spaniard Ruiz, 25, will see his current contract expire in the summer of 2023. That makes this summer the perfect time for Napoli to cash in – providing Ruiz refuses to extend his stay. At present, there is little indication he wishes to commit his future to Napoli.

Reports from the Italian press claimed Newcastle saw a £40m bid for Ruiz knocked back in January. He has since emerged on Arsenal’s radar who are known to be hunting central midfielders in the summer.

A double Newcastle move for Osimhem and Ruiz is therefore far from straight forward. However, it’s unquestionable they have the financial capacity to pull off such a move. Doing so would set them back well in excess of £100m.
