Newcastle have stepped up pursuit of 15-goal striker who is ‘amazing everyone’

Victor Osimhen, Napoli striker celebrates a goal in Serie A match at Hellas Verona

Newcastle United recently sent someone to watch striker target Victor Osimhen in action as preparations for the summer transfer window continue, it has been claimed.

This summer will be the first one Newcastle have gone through since their Saudi-backed takeover. Their first mid-season transfer window under the new owners saw them sign five players. In the summer, there are further expectations for what business they may do.

Although they are playing down the anticipation of a high-spending summer, they are clearly capable of enjoying one. The fact that Premier League status looks more secure also works in their favour.

One area they may look to invest in is their forward line. They signed Chris Wood from Burnley in January but are now looking for a younger strike partner for the New Zealand international.

Osimhen has emerged onto their radar thanks to his fine performances for Napoli in Serie A. He has scored 11 goals from 20 league games so far this season. There were also four goals in the Europa League.

The Nigeria international has a big future ahead of him at just 23 years old. Newcastle reportedly want to capitalise by spending big to welcome him to the Premier League.

It appears they have been taking steps forward in their pursuit of Osimhen. According to Sky Sport Italia‘s Francesco Modugno, they recently went to scout him.

Modugno told Radio Kiss Kiss Napoli: “A senior Newcastle manager was at the Diego Armando Maradona Stadium in Fuorigrotta for Napoli v Milan.

Victor Osimhen is highy rated and Antonio Conte wants to bring him

“It is beyond doubt that strong players are looked after by the big clubs. The manager of the English team was at the stadium to closely observe a Napoli player.

“It is obvious that this can happen, but then to get him, the club will also have to be satisfied.

Osimhen is ‘amazing everyone’

“The player who is paying attention is the one who is amazing everyone, the Nigerian centre-forward of Napoli, Victor Osimhen.”

The game between Napoli and Milan ended as a 1-0 win for the latter. Osimhen lasted all 90 minutes and although he failed to score, he has netted braces in both his appearances since.

Reports have estimated that he could cost in the region of £80m if he is to leave Napoli. That would use up a large portion of the budget Newcastle are supposedly planning with.

His current contract is due to run until 2025, meaning Napoli could yet have him for three more seasons.
