West Ham to rival Newcastle in race for ‘genius’ £36million goalscorer
Newcastle United have emerged as a potential suitor for Patrik Schick, who Alan Shearer described as ‘genius’ during Euro 2020, with West Ham also being linked.
Schick would be a top signing for any side, given his sensational goalscoring record. Indeed, he has scored 16 goals and provided seven assists in 14 Bundesliga games this season.
Schick has been prolific in both Germany, and Italy. As such, he seems as if he could easily adapt to the Premier League.
A report from Tuttomercatoweb, states that Newcastle are interested in bringing him to England. Indeed, he has also been linked with West Ham, per the Daily Mirror.
Both sides would benefit from an elite goalscorer such as Schick. Indeed, Newcastle are desperate to lift themselves from relegation zone, and signing a striker who guarantees goals would surely help with that.
What’s more, Magpies legend Shearer raved about Schick during the Euros. Indeed, Schick had a tremendous tournament, equalling Cristiano Ronaldo‘s five goals, as well as winning goal of the tournament for his effort against Scotland.
“The genius here is in the speed of thought, having the vision to look up with the ball in front of him and see the goalkeeper off his line and then to execute,” Shearer said.
Indeed, Shearer was impressed with Schick’s long-range effort against the Tartan Army. The rave review from one of the Premier League’s best-ever scorers will get Newcastle fans right behind the potential transfer.

Bayer Leverkusen reportedly put a £36million valuation on Schick in the summer. As such, Newcastle could afford him with ease, given the funds available to them.
However, the interest from West Ham, as well as Newcastle’s current league position, provide potential stumbling blocks. The Magpies will hope they can lure the sensational goalscorer in nonetheless.
Schick among potential Newcastle deals
There are a few different names on Newcastle’s shortlist for January. Indeed, given the position they are in, it seems they need to strengthen in a few areas.
Lucas Digne is apparently unsettled at Everton after a reported spat with Rafa Benitez. Indeed, he would be a good signing for the Magpies.
Furthermore, Samuel Umtiti has fallen out of favour at Barcelona, and could be moved on soon.
Moving for both of those players would strengthen the Magpies’ defence. Given they have conceded the most goals in the Premier League this season, that seems a priority in the upcoming window.
