£30m PSG man turned down deadline-day move to Premier League

Paris Saint-Germain defender Thomas Meunier claims he turned down a deadline-day move to Chelsea.
The right-back was linked with a move to Chelsea in the summer, while Juventus and Manchester United are understood to be tracking the player, who is behind Dani Alves in the PSG pecking order.
Now the 26-year-old, who has admitted to being unhappy at his game time this season, has said he snubbed a move to Stamford Bridge in the summer.
Meunier told Belgian TV: “I was expecting PSG to sign another right-back, but didn’t foresee them getting Dani Alves. I didn’t know what to think. Was I going to remain on the subs’ bench all the time?
“I could have left for Chelsea on the final day of the transfer window. But I didn’t want to join them. I am happy at PSG and I don’t want to leave.”
United boss Jose Mourinho last month was reported to be lining up a £30million January move for the Belgium full-back.
The Daily Express reported that Mourinho will try and sign the player in January – a player he has been tracking since last summer – and Meunier is open to a fresh challenge to get him back in the World Cup thoughts of Belgium boss Roberto Martinez.
Meunier recently spoke out about his lack of playing time so far this season, insisting he wants to play every game.
“Yes [I am frustrated] because I want to play every match, whether it’s against Gueugnon, Niort or Bayern Munich,” said Meunier.
“I want to be on the pitch every time. I am in a team which is one of the top five in the world where the back-ups and the starters are about the same level.”
Meunier is under contract at PSG until 2020, but they are likely to be open to selling the player after investing in Kylian Mbappe and Neymar in the summer.
