Manchester United full-back Aaron Wan-Bissaka has revealed the advice he receives from Bruno Fernandes in a bid to add more to the team’s attack.

Right-back Wan-Bissaka has established himself as one of the Premier League’s best defensive full-backs. Indeed, he has a penchant for crucial interceptions and excels in one-on-one situations.

However, United have rarely relied on the 23-year-old to provide a dominant attacking force. In fact, his goal against Newcastle in October was only his first senior strike.

As such, the right-back has said that he continues to work on his attacking. What’s more, he has revealed advice from midfielder Fernandes to help increase his influence going forward.

“I do work on it [attacking],” the defender told United’s matchday programme ahead of the New Years’ Day clash with Aston Villa.

“The staff are helping me do that all the time in training. They like me to go up and link with the attack, when I can.”

On Fernandes, Wan-Bissaka said (via the Manchester Evening News): “He helps everyone – on and off the pitch.

“He tells me before the game what he thinks I should do and which positions he thinks I should get into when he gets the ball, and where I should be.

“He has done it with the other players, and I can see that, along with the impact that he has made.

“When I scored my goal [against Newcastle] he said he couldn’t believe I could shoot! That goal there was to show him!”

United headed into their clash with Villa three points behind Premier League leaders Liverpool. They also begin their FA Cup campaign against Watford later this month.

Asked to name his ambitions for the season, Wan-Bissaka said: “Just for the team to finish as high as we possibly can in the table and, hopefully, bring a few trophies back to the club.

“The match against Watford coming up is another cup game and it’s certainly a competition we want to go far in. I think we’ve just had a turnaround since the slow start to the season.

“You can see the position we are in now, how things have changed. The results have been coming good and I hope it can continue.”

Wan-Bissaka has remained a mainstay in Ole Gunnar Solskjaer‘s team, which the manager has often rotated.

But Solskjaer has defended his use of several formations and players.
