AC Milan consider £15m move for Newcastle defender as Lovren plan B

Newcastle United centre-back Fabian Schar has been proposed to AC Milan as they search for defensive reinforcements, according to reports.

Milan are looking for a new centre-back and have been linked with Liverpool’s Dejan Lovren, whose agent had a positive meeting with the Serie A club on Tuesday.

However, given that Jurgen Klopp would prefer to keep the Croatian, Milan are also looking for alternatives – and Newcastle’s Schar has been offered to them by his agent.

Schar was something of a bargain purchase for Newcastle last summer at just £3m, and he went on to make 28 appearances in all competitions for the Magpies.

His time at St James’ Park could soon be coming to an end though, as Calciomercato claim that Schar was on the agenda in a meeting with the CEO of agency group SportsTotal and Milan in recent days.

While RB Leipzig’s Dayot Upamecano would be a preferred target for the Rossoneri, Schar – who is represented by the same group – was also named as a cheaper alternative, now valued at around £15m.

Milan’s directors are now awaiting the opinion of coach Marco Giampaolo before deciding whether or not to pursue a move for the Swiss international.
