AC Milan are readying an offer of €10million as they step up their efforts to sign Arsenal defender Shkodran Mustafi, according to reports.

Mustafi moved to Arsenal from Valencia in the summer of 2016 and he was a regular during his first three seasons in north London, making no less than 38 appearances in each season.

And while he made 40 appearances under former Gunners boss Unai Emery in the Spaniard’s first season at the helm, Mustafi was restricted mostly to Europa League action before Emery was sacked.

Mikel Arteta has brought the defender back in but doubts remain over his future, with only one year remaining on his contract at The Emirates.

According to Todofichajes, Milan are considering a swoop for Mustafi to offer him more first-team football and he could be a direct replacement for Alessio Romagnoli, who is a target for Barcelona.

The source says that Arteta would not be against selling the German as he does not fit into his plans and the manager is willing to earn €10million from his sale when the transfer window re-opens.

Indeed, Arsenal could look to sell up given the risk of Mustafi leaving for free when his contract expires next summer.

Defence has become the most urgent area for Arteta since his arrival at The Emirates, with Sokratis Papastathopoulos’ contract also up in June 2021.

The Gunners head coach is awaiting the impending arrival of William Saliba, who was loaned back to Saint-Etienne after joining Arsenal last summer.

Pablo Mari was also brought in in January and his loan deal from Flamengo is expected to be made permanent.

In other news, Arsenal are also reportedly considering a move for Besiktas defender Domagoj Vida.
