AC Milan in three-way tussle for unwanted Man Utd defender
AC Milan are one of three teams looking to sign Manchester United’s Marcos Rojo, according to the latest reports from Italy.
The Italian giants are said to be looking to strengthen their backline before the Serie A transfer deadline closes as they target a return to the Champions League.
The Argentinian international, who can play either a centre-half or full-back, is reportedly deemed surplus to requirements by Ole Gunnar Solskjaer and would be allowed to leave the club.
The Red Devils have often struggled with offloading players for a good price in recent years, with Alexis Sanchez’s huge wages and lack of interested buyers a running theme of this summer’s transfer gossip columns.
Dozens of European clubs have recouped more in transfer fees than Manchester United so far this decade, with Premier League clubs including Chelsea, Liverpool and Southampton having made much more by selling players.
But the reported £58m brought in for Romelu Lukaku helps matters in that regard, and offloading peripheral figures unlikely to have any first-team impact such as Rojo would also benefit them.

The defender has been at the club for five years now, after joining from Sporting Lisbon for £16m following an impressive 2014 World Cup in which he was part of an Argentina side that finished runners-up.
But injuries and a loss of form have hampered his time in Manchester United, and he’s only made 14 Premier League appearances over the last two seasons, and is yet to appear at the start of this campaign.
A report in The Guardian has named AC Milan as one of the interested parties in the player, alongside Ligue 1 sides Marseille and Monaco.
There’s a chance that the latest hamstring injury suffered by Luke Shaw could provide Rojo with a way back in, though.
