Adam Lallana makes emotional farewell to Liverpool; hails team-mate
Adam Lallana has posted an emotional farewell to Liverpool and said one of his team-mate’s deserves this season’s success more than anyone.
Lallana will leave Liverpool this summer after six years on Merseyside for pastures new. And, according to The Times that will be with Brighton with the south-coast side understood to be well down the line in singing the 32-year-old.
Lallana will take his place on the bench on Sunday at Newcastle and may even get a short cameo as the Reds bring the curtain down on a record-breaking season.
The former Southampton man though will leave soon after on a free transfer, but he has had nothing but praise for Jurgen Klopp’s men.
On Friday evening he posted a picture of himself with his Premier League winners’ medal on Instagram: “Nothing but love and appreciation for the last 6 years.
“Thanks to the amazing people who made this place feel like home. To the supporters for accepting me and making me feel like one of their own.
“The staff – the world-class staff – without whom none of what we achieve as players would be possible. I can’t find the words to do justice for how much they mean to me… they are everything!
“To Brendan Rodgers, I will forever be grateful that he gave me the privilege to represent this club. To Jürgen Klopp, an even better man than he is a football manager.
“My teammates, they are my brothers. To share this journey with these boys has made me feel the luckiest fella in the game. To the Skip, Jordan Henderson… my best friend! No one deserves success more than this guy. It’s meant everything to be at his side while he’s achieved it.
“And to my own family, my wife and children, my mum, dad and sister… my own “team”. They made the good times better and the tough times bearable.
“I am so grateful to have been part of this special place. And now on to the next adventure.
“With love, Adam.”
Lallana also paid an emotional tribute to skipper Jordan Henderson, who was named FWA Player of the Year.
Lallana told LFTV: “I haven’t been with Jordan throughout the whole journey. I’ve been alongside him when he’s had his down moments…”
He then moved away, visible in tears, and the interview was paused before he returned and described Henderson’s attitude in the wake of a 3-3 draw at Sevilla in November 2017.
Lallana addedd: “He’s had a couple of injuries and he’s been alongside me and my dark moments, injuries. It’s not just defeats these dark moments.

“That’ll be a constant battle for Premier League footballers throughout footballing careers because you’re just looking for answers – try harder, do this, do that. There is nothing that will guarantee fitness, you’ve just got to keep working and doing your job.
“There was one morning – because we used to drive in a lot [together] me and Jordan – and we drew 3-3 to Sevilla. It felt like a defeat and I remember Jordan… he had his hood up and just hearing him say ‘as captain that can’t happen, I’ve got to be responsible for that.’
“Just to hear how honest he was but thinking ‘are you crazy to be taking that responsibility? It’s the team’s responsibility, we’ve not even lost the game.’
“That just epitomises his selflessness and how much responsibility he takes for Liverpool Football Club in the bad moments, that’s not the good moments.
“That’s why he deserves this more than anyone else. He deserves to be the captain of Liverpool holding the four trophies in one season more than anyone else and no one can take that away from him ever.
“Being not just his friend but his team-mate, nothing makes me happier.”
