Pundit backs summer transfer plan led by dream link-up to inspire Man Utd trophy haul

Gabriel Agbonlahor says that Manchester United could win the Premier League and Champions League by addressing three areas of their squad this summer.

The Red Devils will end the season at an important crossroads, regardless of their Europa League outcome. They will likely finish second in the Premier League and could clinch European glory for the first time since 2017. However, reaching the final would still present an important reflection opportunity.

Indeed, much of that reflection will centre around how to take the next step in their progression.

This summer will prove pivotal if United are to do better in the Champions League and challenge Manchester City for the title.

As such, pundits have linked Ole Gunnar Solskjaer‘s side with additions throughout the team. However, as pointed out by Agbonlahor, centre-back, striker and winger could be the club’s biggest priorities.

Tottenham’s Harry Kane is one player whose uncertain future will dominate the transfer window. Out wide, meanwhile, the Red Devils are still reportedly keen on Jadon Sancho and Agbonlahor wants United to go for both, as well as a new defender.

Asked about Kane, the pundit told talkSPORT: “I think he’s worth more [than £90m].

“I think with what he can bring to that Manchester United team, you’re not going to get Harry Kane for £90m from [Spurs chairman] Daniel Levy.

“It’s going to be over £100m, £110m. Just because of how good a player he is. He’s a natural finisher at the peak of his career. I just can’t see it happening for £90m.”

Agbonlahor added: “I think he could win everything [at United]. Manchester United probably need another right winger, a striker and a centre-half.

“If they could get Harry Kane, maybe Sancho and a world-class centre-half, there is no reason why they can’t win the Premier League, win the Champions League.”

Agbonlahor added that bringing Kane to Old Trafford would open up a whole host of exciting link-ups going forward.

“If I was Harry Kane, I’d be pushing for a move because he doesn’t want to finish his career as the top scorer in the Premier League without a title or trophy,” the pundit said.

“Nowadays, agents will speak to players. Harry Kane’s agent will say, ‘you need to come out and say you want to leave’. They might even force his hand.

“There is that fear [that the move won’t work out], but when you’re a natural finisher like Harry Kane… [Paul] Pogba, [Bruno] Fernandes, [Marcus] Rashford putting chances on a plate for Harry Kane – he’ll finish them.

“He could play anywhere and score goals.”
