Agent makes ‘on the market’ admission in response to Man Utd transfer link

Federico Bernardeschi, Giovanni Di Lorenzo, Italy Euro 2020 winners TEAMtalk

The agent of Giovanni Di Lorenzo has cast doubt on interest from Manchester United but admitted that his client may be “on the market”.

Di Lorenzo has just concluded a successful Euro 2020 campaign, which ended with victory for Italy. The right-back started most of his country’s matches, establishing himself in the back four. It followed up a club campaign in which he made 36 Serie A starts, contributing three goals and six assists.

His form over the summer and preceding months has led to links with Man Utd. The Red Devils are looking for another right-back to provide competition for Aaron Wan-Bissaka. Ideally, they are looking for someone more effective going forwards.

Kieran Trippier has been heavily linked with a return to the Premier League after winning La Liga with Atletico Madrid, for example. But Di Lorenzo would be an alternative to consider; recent reports claimed United think he would fit into English football.

However, the 27-year-old’s agent has now clarified the situation, confirming there has been no approach yet from United, but that Di Lorenzo might be able to make a transfer.

Mario Giuffredi told Si Gonfia La Rate: “If proposals arrive, we are obliged to take them into consideration, also in the interest of Napoli because it’s the president himself who has put everyone on the market, so we feel we are on the market.

Manchester United have been linked with Palmeiras youngster Gabriel Veron and are in the “front row” for his signature.

“If an appropriate offer arrives, it’s discussed and considered. For now, it’s newspaper talk.

“I’ve read about Manchester United, but now it’s newspaper talk. If there were real things, we would be the ones to communicate it to Napoli.

“At the moment, no request has arrived.”

Man Utd rivalling Tottenham for defender

It is not just the right-hand side of defence that United are looking to strengthen.

Another priority is to finally settle on a centre-back partner for captain Harry Maguire. To that end, Raphael Varane of Real Madrid is a top target.

But he is not the only option. Reports have also indicated interest in a Copa America winner who shone in Serie A last season.

United would have to fend off rival interest from Tottenham to get their man, though…
