Chelsea have suffered a blow in their pursuit of Juventus centre-back Daniele Rugani.
Maurizio Sarri is keen on a reunion with his former Empoli player, but despite Juventus’ acquisition of Leonardo Bonucci, the Serie A giants are unwilling to let Rugani go.
Rugani’s agent, Davide Torchia, told Radio Kiss Kiss: “Future? Well I don’t think Juve are willing to sell Daniele. Sarri has been trying to get him for three years now and he would surely like to sign him at Chelsea.
“Even so, Juve have always listened to what Rugani wanted and they even decided to sell [Mattia] Caldara to Milan instead of Daniele.”
Indeed, Chelsea had also been linked with Caldara, but he formed part of the agreement which saw Bonucci re-join Juventus and Gonzalo Higuain switch to Milan.
Rugani is valued at over €50m by Juventus, for whom he played 22 times in the league last season. He has made seven appearances for the Italian national team.
