The agent of Chelsea midfielder Jorginho – Joao Santos – has revealed that his client will be staying put at Stamford Bridge “for at least another four years.”

Following an underwhelming debut season in the Premier League, speculation began to rumble that the midfield metronome might be set for a quick return to Serie A over the summer.

The combination of the manager who signed him – Maurizio Sarri – returning to his homeland to take up the mantle at Juventus, coupled with new Chelsea boss Frank Lampard seeking to give homegrown youth products a chance had seemingly spelt the end for the 27-year-old after just one season in England.

Jorginho was a crucial cog in the machine in his five seasons at Napoli (three of them under Sarri’s tutelage) – his time there helping to re-establish the Naples club as one of the powerhouses of Italian football.

The midfielder, however, has featured prominently in each of Chelsea’s five games across all formats so far this season, and the player’s agent has moved to reiterate his client’s desire to dig in with Chelsea and see out the remainder of the five year contract he signed just last year.

Speaking to Italian commercial radio station Radio Kiss Kiss (via Football-Italia.net), Santos said: “We have mid-to-long-term project with Chelsea, similar to when he joined Hellas Verona and then Napoli.

“There are five years left on his contract and let’s say he’d like to stay for at least another four years.”
