Agent pushing winger Tottenham are confident of signing towards Ajax

Tottenham face a battle to land an attacking target this summer, with the player’s agent pushing for him to move to Dutch giants Ajax instead.

Anderlecht winger Paul Mukairu is the player in question, as Jose Mourinho looks to bolster his forward options.

At this stage, it remains unclear whether Spurs will complete a permanent deal for Gareth Bale. That is despite reports on Tuesday suggesting that a transfer could be done.

Tottenham have landed a number of players from Ajax down the years, but Score Nigeria claims that the Eredivisie side could gain a little payback by snatching a player on Jose Mourinho’s radar.

A recent report in the Daily Mirror stated that Spurs were confident of signing the 21-year-old. Indeed, it was claimed that a fee of just £4m would be enough to get a deal done.

However, Ajax are refusing to back down in their chase for Mukairu.

“Ajax are interested in Paul,” a representative speaking on behalf of the left-winger explained.

“He is a highly technical player who will fit the Ajax style. He is not yet the finished article and Ajax would be a great club for him to continue with his development.

Report reveals £6m agent fee for Tottenham flop

Tottenham reportedly paid super-agent Jorge Mendes £6million to sign a player last summer who has been hugely disappointing.

Spurs forked out £15m to bring Matt Doherty in from Wolves, with many pundits believing they had landed a bargain.

However, the Republic of Ireland star has struggled to replicate the form he showed during his time at Molineux.

And now Football Insider claims that the north London side paid Mendes £6m of that fee to get their man.

To be fair to Doherty, he has largely struggled adapting to Jose Mourinho’s preferred 4-3-3 formation.

At Wolves he was allowed to bomb forward as a wing-back and was regularly scoring or providing assists.

Mourinho is loathed to play Doherty and Sergio Reguilon in the same back four, given that both prefer to attack.

That has no doubt hindered the 29-year-old, who has often played second fiddle to Serge Aurier this term. Read more…
