The agent of new Leeds signing Dani van den Heuvel thinks the goalkeeper has a better chance of first team football at Elland Road than at Ajax.
Leeds announced the signing of van den Heuvel on Tuesday. The 17-year-old, who signed a three-year contract, will join their Under-23 squad at first.
Van den Heuvel previously spent three years in Ajax’s academy, and according to Voetbal International, the Dutch club did make an offer to keep him.
However, the teenager has opted for a fresh challenge in West Yorkshire. And now, one of his representatives has explained why.
“At Leeds, Dani has more prospects than at Ajax,” Daan Kramp of Forza Sports Group explained to Voetbal International (as translated by Sport Witness).
“The club’s first team goalkeeper [Illan Meslier] is 20 years old. That indicates that they have an eye for young goalkeepers.
“The club really wants to invest in him and has a clear plan in mind. It’s a nice step for him.”
Van den Heuvel has played for the Netherlands at three different youth levels, most recently with the Under-17s.
He has become the fourth young player to sign up at Elland Road recently. Leeds have already bolstered their youth ranks with the additions of Joe Gelhardt, as well as Cody Drameh and Charlie Allen.
LEEDS PURSUIT OF WHITE ‘DEFINITELY’ OVER
While Leeds have managed to strengthen their Under-23 squad significantly, they have so far been able to complete a deal for one of their main targets for the first team.
Leeds are eager to sign Ben White on a permanent basis after his loan spell from Brighton. However, the Seagulls have rejected two bids for the defender.
And it doesn’t look like Leeds’ chances of signing the 22-year-old are going to increase. That’s because talkSPORT claim that Brighton do not want to sell to a team who could be in a similar position to them next season.
