Agent reveals why defender chose Leipzig over Leeds as move is sealed
The agent of Josko Gvardiol has revealed why he snubbed Leeds for Leipzig after his move to the Bundesliga was confirmed.
RB Leipzig have announced the signing of Gvardiol from Dinamo Zagreb, where he will stay for this season.
The teenager had been a target for Leeds as they looked to strengthen their defence. They even had a bid accepted, but eventually settled for Diego Llorente instead.
When news of Leeds’ interest emerged, Gvardiol was said to be hesitant to accept the offer. Despite being offered regular gametime, the 18-year-old reportedly did not feel ready to make such a step.
Now, RB Leipzig have confirmed that Gvardiol will join them next summer. He has signed a contract with the German club until 2026.
Upon confirmation of the transfer, he said: “As a young player, it was important to come to a club that can help me take the next step in my career.
“That is exactly what RB Leipzig is all about. The club has shown several times how players can develop and improve here.”

Agent confirms Leeds offer
Just before the move became official, the Croatian’s agent revealed why he chose Leipzig in favour of Leeds.
“True, he had an offer from Leeds but he chose Leipzig for the sporting project,” Andy Bara told Calciomercato.
“At an economic level the offers were practically the same.”
Leeds had reportedly offered a fee in the region of €20m for Gvardiol. Leipzig have paid €16m for his transfer.
He has played 16 times for Dinamo Zagreb’s first team so far, scoring one goal.
