Roma head coach Paulo Fonseca has made Arsenal defender Sead Kolasinac a firm target for the January transfer window, according to a report.
Kolasinac is on the fringes of the squad under Mikel Arteta, who has told the Bosnian left-back that he is free to leave.
Indeed TEAMtalk revealed how first-choice left-back Kieran Tierney was key in Arteta’s final decision.
While recent interest from Bayer Leverkusen ultimately failed to materialise, though, Corrierre dello Sport claims that Kolasinac could still get a move away in January.
The source says that his agent has opened talks with Roma and proposed the prospect of his client’s move to Italy.
Roma head coach Fonseca has analysed his current squad and feels an experienced player of Kolasinac’s ilk would fit in well.
Leonardo Spinazzola is currently the Serie A side’s first-choice left-back after Aleksandar Kolarov’s departure to Inter Milan.
Behind him is Riccardo Calafiori, 18, who Fonseca wants to send out on loan to gain experience.
As such, the head coach is willing to bring another top left-back in to allow him to rotate throughout the season. Indeed Fonseca is aware of Spinazolla’s worrying injury history, meaning it is crucial to find back-up.
Roma received an €8million (£7.2million) offer for Califiori from Fiorentina this summer, which they swiftly rejected.
Kolasinac, meanwhile, has played four times for Arsenal this season including two EFL Cup outings.
He has only made one Premier League appearance, though, playing the full 90 minutes against West Ham.
The 27-year-old was one of several Arsenal stars linked with an exit during the recent transfer window. Lucas Torreira was among them, with the Uruguayan moving on loan to Atletico Madrid.
Arsenal battling to sign rising Reading star
Meanwhile, reports elsewhere claim that Arsenal are in the hunt to sign Reading winger Michael Olise.
The French youth international is supposedly a target for Arsenal, Wolves and Leeds.
The transfer window for trades between the Premier League and EFL remains open until 5pm on Friday.
