Agents causing concern, as rising Liverpool target enters contract wrangle

Jeremy Doku Anderlecht

The representatives of rising Anderlecht star Jeremy Doku could reportedly end up clashing with his club over whether to hand the striker a new contract.

Doku has two years left on his current deal amid reports that Liverpool have renewed their interest in him.

The Reds are allegedly considering making the 18-year-old Anderlecht’s club-record sale, ahead of Youri Tielemans.

The latest speculation comes after Liverpool passed up the opportunity to sign Doku earlier in his teenage years. The player travelled to Anfield to meet senior club figures, but a move there did not materialise.

As such, amid the renewed interest, HLN claims that Anderlecht are keen to tie Doku down to a new contract.

The Belgian club want to keep their striker for “as long as possible”, with talks underway. Anderlecht are aware that Doku has suitors from several top European clubs and want to resolve the situation promptly.

However, Doku’s entourage does not share that view. While the representatives are “not averse” to a new deal, they are equally in no hurry to resolve his future.

HLN also says that Anderlecht are unwilling to sell Doku, but that their stance could change with a significant offer, with €30million (£27million) quoted as an example.

‘Crazy offer’ required for Anderlecht to sell Doku

Jeremy Doku

Anderlecht’s CEO has previously suggested it would take a “crazy offer” for his side to lose Doku this transfer window.

Karel van Eetvelt said: “Scared? Never. Only at a Belgian club you can never say that something is impossible.

“If, say, Liverpool suddenly come up with a crazy offer, you have to look at it. How much?

“I prefer not to talk about figures, but AA Gent set the tone with [Jonathan] David’s [sale to Lille].

“To be clear: for now, only the media is speculating about Doku and Liverpool.”

Doku has started the new season in fantastic fashion, scoring two goals and assisting three others in six league games.
