Romelu Lukaku’s agents have branded transfer rumours of the Inter striker’s potential move to Manchester City as “fantasy news”.
Former Manchester United striker Lukaku has rediscovered his explosive form since leaving Old Trafford. The Belgium international has scored 51 goals in 74 Inter appearances..
What’s more, he has continued his excellent international goalscoring feats since switching clubs in 2019.
As such, recent reports in The Telegraph claimed that Lukaku is on City’s shortlist for a summer move. Pep Guardiola’s men are looking for a long-term replacement to Sergio Aguero, whose contract expires in June.
However, according to The Express (via TechnoCodex), the striker’s agents have laughed off the prospect.
Lukaku’s advisers have said that the rumours are “fantasy news”, because their client is ‘loving life’ in Italy.
In addition, he has no intention of leaving Inter for any club, never mind back to the Premier League with City.
Indeed, Lukaku has three more years left on his contract, with his Serie A employers chasing the league title.
Inter sit second in the Italian top flight, three points behind leaders AC Milan and seven clear of serial winners Juventus.
Therefore, the forward‘s sole focus is on fighting for silverware this season and in the campaigns to come.
Lukaku’s previous bout of explosive form earned him a £75million move to United from Everton in 2017. From there, he enjoyed a solid first season at Old Trafford but faded out of Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s plans.
In any case, his future could have turned out differently, with then-Chelsea boss Antonio Conte close to signing him in the same summer.
However, he recently joined forces with Conte and has not looked back since.
Lukaku not in immediate City plans
While The Telegraph‘s report last weekend also said that left-back and defensive midfield are areas of concern for City in the summer, Guardiola has insisted that he will not bring any new players in in January.
The title contenders have found some form this season after a run of five successive victories.
The weekend’s 4-0 demolition of Crystal Palace means they sit just two points behind leaders Manchester United with a game in hand. And they could be top of the table on Wednesday night if results go their way and they dispose of Aston Villa.
