The 27-year-old was out of contract but has renewed his commitment to the cause at Fir Park after playing a key role in keeping Motherwell in the top flight.

The Englishman, who initially joined on loan from Rotherham, scored in each of the play-off legs as Motherwell beat Rangers 6-1.

The pacey wide player has notched 20 goals and a similar number of assists in two years in Lanarkshire.

Ainsworth said: “We didn’t have the best of seasons but the way we finished it was brilliant and I’m looking forward to next season and cracking on as high up the league as we can.”
