Hakim Ziyech TEAMtalk

Ajax attacking midfielder Hakim Ziyech has signed a new contract, the Dutch club have confirmed.

Moroccan international Ziyech was one of the standout players in Ajax’s run to the semi-finals of the Champions League last season, attracting interest from several of Europe’s biggest clubs.

Arsenal were one of many clubs linked, but they surprisingly turned down the chance to sign the 26-year-old, despite him only being valued at around £30m.

More recently, Ziyech had been targeted by Bayern Munich, whose primary target had been Leroy Sane – before the Manchester City star was sidelined for months with a ligament injury.

However, the German giants will not be able to sign Ziyech this summer, after he penned a new deal at Ajax.

Ziyech will now stay with the Eredivisie champions until June 2022, which represents a one-year extension for the Dutch-born star.

It’s a second contract extension in a matter of days for Ajax, who also tied down Manchester United target David Neres to a longer deal this week – after they turned down a bid from the Red Devils before the transfer deadline.
