Man Utd man has had ‘conversations’ with confidants as swap talk swirls

Manchester United left-back Alex Telles reportedly remains firmly focused on ‘justifying’ his move to Old Trafford amid claims of his exit in a swap deal.

The 28-year-old became one of United‘s flurry of signings on last October’s transfer deadline day. He arrived with excitement over his reputation as a goal-contributing full-back, who can operate further forward. However, he has only played 18 times in all competitions and struggled to make his mark.

Indeed, pushing first-choice left-back Luke Shaw into a rich vein of form has proved one of his biggest contributions.

Therefore, speculation arose last weekend that United are thinking of sacrificing the Brazilian in a swap deal.

Reports in Record claimed that the Red Devils have their eye on Sporting wonderkid Nuno Mendes.

According to more recent claims from UOL, however, Telles and United both want the player to stay put.

Old Trafford boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has ‘complete confidence’ in the left-back.

Furthermore, Solskjaer feels that Telles acts as a crucial player for the ‘balance’ of his squad – and for keeping renewed England international Shaw on his toes.

As such, senior United figures are not willing to talk about his future.

However, Telles is aware that he could have had a greater contribution to his club since his arrival.

Consequently, he has told confidants that he is focusing on challenging Shaw for a role, ‘justifying’ United’s investment and continue his association with Brazil.

Telles made his debut for his country in March 2019 and, despite dropping out of Tite’s thinking, he played in three of of four World Cup qualifiers last October and November.

Brazil did not play during the recent international break amid the coronavirus crisis there.

Fellow Telles full-back linked away

Meanwhile, Telles’ fellow full-back Brandon Williams has also become the subject of transfer speculation.

The Sun claims that Southampton are looking to revisit a loan deal for the Englishman in the summer.

The Saints tried to seal a temporary move in January, but United knocked them back.

Southampton manager Ralph Hasenhuttl is reportedly an admirer of one of Williams’ key traits.
