Inter Milan’s Alexis admission, but flop could return to Manchester this week

Manchester United reject Alexis Sanchez could be back at Old Trafford this week.

The Chile forward was loaned to Inter Milan last summer, but his agreement expires at the end of June.

That means the 31-year-old could return to United sooner rather than later, although Inter are trying to work on a deal to extend his time in Serie A.

Sanchez has hardly been a roaring success for Inter with just one goal in 19 appearances in all competitions.

Inter though still want Sanchez to stay and Inter CEO Guiseppe Marotta has revealed talks are ongoing with United officials.

Speaking on Sunday, he confirmed that Inter want Sanchez to stay, as well as Victor Moses.

“This is a great regulatory anomaly that needs to be resolved because we are still dealing with Chelsea and Manchester United today to try to extend their loans,” Marrotta said.

“It is not a [easy] thing.”

Sanchez has endured a torrid two-and-a-half years since he moved to Old Trafford in 2018 from Arsenal.

A lacklustre 18 months in Manchester resulted in a humbling loan exit to Inter Milan this season.

Sanchez is the club’s highest earner on a reported £500,000-per-week salary.

Squad role for Alexis

And with two years remaining on his current deal, potential suitors are not anticipated to be queuing up to sign him.

However, The Mirror has suggested Sanchez will be given a fresh opportunity at Man Utd if he is willing to accept a squad role at Old Trafford.

Sanchez is believed to be one of five unwanted players that United are looking to offload this summer as Solskjaer looks to add Jadon Sancho and Jack Grealish to his squad.

According to the Sunday Express, Sancho remains top of United’s summer shopping list. But the club are looking at ways in which they can finance the deal first to ease that financial burden.
