Rangers star agrees terms with Ligue 1 club despite Premier League links

Rangers striker Alfredo Morelos is on the verge of leaving Ibrox after reports indicated he has agreed personal terms with Lille.

Morelos has been a controversial character during his three years in Scotland, but his goal record cannot be questioned. With 77 goals from just 137 games, Rangers have been aware for some time that he may be ready to take a step up elsewhere.

Despite reports suggesting he could move south of the border to a Premier League club, it now appears Morelos’ next adventure will be in France.

Morelos had been on the radar of the likes of Aston Villa, Crystal Palace, Leicester and Newcastle. But according to RMC Sport, the Colombian has agreed personal terms with Ligue 1 outfit Lille. The French side now need to agree a fee with Rangers.

Earlier this week, The Scottish Sun claimed that Lille were ready to offer £15m for Morelos. Rangers reportedly want somewhere closer to £20m.

Gers sporting director Ross Wilson has already warned potential suitors that they won’t let Morelos leave for cheap.

Wilson said in May: “We definitely don’t want to be selling anybody on the cheap to use that phrase. That’s for sure.

“The market as it stands just now… I’m in touch with my counterparts throughout Europe all the time, particularly my colleagues in the Premier League that I’m used to working really, really close with.

“One of the biggest topics that we speak about informally just now is what we all think the transfer market will look like. For a start, when will that market open? Nobody knows that. But then secondly what it’ll look like.

“Equally, my phone goes every day, as you can imagine, with lots of agents and again that’s one of the first things on the question list – ‘What do you think the transfer market will look like?’ from them to me and me to them.

“The bottom line is we don’t know and we don’t know where it will be, but there is certainly no intention to sell anyone on the cheap. That’s for sure.”
