Vincent Janssen: Close to sealing Spurs switch

Tottenham Hotspur look close to finally securing the services of highly-rated Dutch striker Vincent Janssen from AZ Alkmaar.

According to Sky Sources, he will undergo a medical today to complete the move, with the clubs having reached an agreement at £18.8million.

Spurs had a first offer rejected at £15million according to reports, but have managed to meet the asking price of AZ after negotiations.

“I won’t train with AZ any more,” he told Algemeen Dagblad. “The clubs are now really close to an agreement. I will go home and wait for the phone call to go.

“I’m glad that it is almost complete. For me it was clear from the beginning that I wanted to go to Spurs. The competition appeals to me and the plan of the coach is similar to the plan that AZ boss John van den Brom shared with me a year ago at AZ.

“It is a beautiful club with a fantastic stadium and heaps of potential. Anyone in my shoes would take this step.”

The striker, who finished as the Eredivisie’s top scorer last season with 27 goals in 34 games, is also undaunted by the fact he could be playing alongside England striker Harry Kane with Mauricio Pochettino pondering the option of playing with two strikers.

“Harry Kane? People can say what they want but I’m not afraid of anybody. He is a great striker but we will see how it goes. We can complement each other, I think I can learn a lot from him,” added Janssen.

Janssen had expressed his frustration at not being allowed to move to White Hart Lane last month, admitting he was disappointed with the way his current club Alkmaar behaved.

“I have expressed my choice to the club,” Janssen said on Thursday.

“Tottenham Hotspur have made a high bid in my eyes. There has been an offer around €18m (£14.87m), but AZ will not even come to the table.

“I would like somewhere else as soon as possible to start my preparation. This is frustrating.”

Now, it appears, the Netherlands international will get the move he wants.
