Allan stays committed to Hibs

The midfielder has been repeatedly linked with a move to Rangers while SPFL Premiership champions Celtic have also been credited with an interest in him.

Allan impressed as Hibs finished second in the Championship last season and was named as the divisional PFA Scotland Player of the Year.

He is out of contract next summer and Easter Road manager Alan Stubbs would rather keep the 23-year-old than cash in on him early.

Allan too appears open to staying in Edinburgh and told Sky Sports News HQ: “I’m a Hibs player, I’ve got a year left of my contract and nothing has changed. I’m looking forward to the start of the season here.

“I just get on with my business every day and as I say, I’ve got a year left here so I try not to look too much into it.

“Obviously you hear whispers here and there but I’ve just been focused on doing well for Hibs and kicking on next season again.”

Allan joined Hibs last summer after an unsuccessful move from Dundee United to West Bromwich Albion in 2012.

He failed to make a first-team appearance for the Midlands side and was loaned to Portsmouth (twice), MK Dons and Birmingham before he returned to Scotland.

While Allan is intent on staying at Hibs just now, he would like a second opportunity in English football later in his career.

He added: “In the future, I would like another chance down there but for me now it’s just about kicking on next season and getting better than I was last year.”

Stubbs – who is ‘very close’ to signing a new goalkeeper – is not only confident of retaining Allan but also hopeful of securing the talented youngster on an extended deal.

He said: “I’m quite relaxed about it. Scott has still got a year left and we fully intend for him to see that out. Even better, we have been in negotiations about a new contract. We haven’t finalised anything yet but we’re happy.

“Scott is a really important member of our squad. He was Player of the Year last year and rightly so. We want to keep our best players.

“We know how important he is for us and it’s vital we keep him for next season to make sure we have a real push for promotion.”
