Sam Allardyce TEAMtalk

West Brom boss Sam Allardyce said the quality of his side’s finishing was the best since he arrived after Albion hammered Chelsea 5-2.

Allardyce admitted in midweek he was “jealous” of Tuchel’s array of top talent at Chelsea.

But the Stamford Bridge chief could be forgiven, on the day at least, for envying the Baggies’ superior finishing power, especially from the hugely-impressive Matheus Pereira.

As much as the international break cursed Chelsea, so it blessed the Baggies.

Tuchel had just one full training session with his senior squad to prepare for this Saturday lunchtime kick-off while Allardyce quite clearly capitalised on an extended run without a fixture to drill his West Brom charges.

Silva’s red card undoubtedly changed the course of this match but West Brom deserve huge plaudits for both their tactical discipline and clinical attacking play.

Allardyce said: “I am really pleased and satisfied about how the players applied our tactics today, how we set out to control Chelsea’s attacks and then what we could do in possession of the ball.

“Because we ended up being so good in possession of the ball on so many occasions, and (because of) our quality of finishing, which was the best it’s been since I have been here, it was a thoroughly deserved victory.

“Of course people will always look to the fact they went down to 10 men, but I’ve been manager of many teams with 10 men that have won and not lost – we took full advantage after that.

“I thought we started the game really brightly and were creating chances. I think Silva was lucky to stay on when he pulled Pereira back with both his hands, and then we had to recover from a goal they scored – and did that brilliantly.”

‘Unbelievable day’

Callum Robinson, who scored twice told BT Sport: “An unbelievable day for all the boys, the staff and the football club, and all the fans back at home watching.

“It’s been a tough season, where we are in the league, but it’s nice to come here and get so many goals and really enjoy it today, against a really good Chelsea team – 10 men or not they have a lot of quality.”

Asked what it was about him and scoring against Chelsea, Robinson said: “I don’t have a clue! It must just be that team where I enjoy playing against their defenders, I’m not sure. The lads did great today for me to get those two goals, and I really enjoyed it.”
