Allardyce eyes former Liverpool star as crucial West Brom reinforcement
Sam Allardyce is reportedly considering a reunion with Mamadou Sakho to help West Brom in their battle against relegation.
Allardyce recently took over from Slaven Bilic at the Hawthorns. His task is to lead the Baggies out of the relegation zone.
He will likely need to bring in reinforcements in January to help – despite admitting it may be a difficult transfer window.
Defence will be a key area he may look to strengthen; Albion have conceded more goals than anyone else in the Premier League so far.
With that in mind, The Athletic claim that Allardyce has added Crystal Palace defender Sakho to his transfer wishlist.
Allardyce was in charge at Selhurst Park when Palace signed Sakho from Liverpool, and could look to pursue a deal for the centre-back again.
However, it is warned that Palace would require a payment to give him to West Brom on loan. They would also want the Baggies to pay his six-figure weekly wages.
The 30-year-old, from his perspective, may be open to a move to find more gametime. He has played just four times in the Premier League this season – and has not featured since October.
A loan spell, then, may give him the chance to resurrect his career. Reuniting with a former manager may be the ideal move for the Frenchman.
Another player eyes Allardyce reunion
Sakho is not the only player to have worked under Allardyce before to have been linked with West Brom since his appointment.
Earlier this week, former Everton striker Oumar Niasse issued a come-and-get-me plea to his former manager.
Niasse said: “Of course West Brom could be a good opportunity for me, but my agent will try to do what he needs to do.
“If Big Sam is interested, I’d be ready to jump in my car and drive to Birmingham!”
