Dele Alli Tottenham TEAMtalk

Troy Deeney says Dele Alli must adopt Kevin de Bruyne’s hard-working attitude if he is to end his run of poor form at Tottenham.

After bursting on to the scene in in 2015/16 and enjoying three productive years on the back of that, Alli has struggled in recent seasons.

His goal contributions have significantly dropped off and his game time, particularly under Jose Mourinho, has decreased too.

In fact, Alli has featured in just two Premier League games so far this season. He was also one of those to be taken off at half time in Spurs’ shock 1-0 Europa League loss to Royal Antwerp on Thursday.

That has led to more suggestions that his time in North London could be coming to an end. And Deeney has suggested a move away could be a good thing for him, but insists he must improve his work ethic if he is to get back to his best.

“I don’t know if Dele is not a great trainer but that is what you hear,” he told The Sun (via The Mirror).

“And when you also hear of the intensity at which teams such as Manchester City and Liverpool train, you understand how they have gone up a notch. Mourinho is now trying to replicate that at Tottenham.

Kevin De Bruyne is a magnificently gifted player but, when you play against him, you are soon struck by how hard he works.

“Dele has to do the same. And maybe he needs a different club to get the best out of him.”

Pundit advises Alli to seek new adventure

Earlier this week, Alli was also told to think about departing Spurs by Sky Sports’ Danny Mills.

The midfielder was rumoured to be looking at leaving in the summer transfer window but ended up staying as a move to PSG didn’t materialise.

But with Alli seemingly out of favour under a manager who has made it clear he is unimpressed by his laziness, Mills says a switch is now required to prevent his career stalling.

“He’s been at Tottenham a long time and he’s been incredibly successful. But I think that if he doesn’t show what Mourinho wants to see between now and the end of January, he might need something different, a new challenge,” Mills said.
