Alonso hails Liverpool’s attacking verve under Klopp

Xabi Alonso has poured praise onto “prestigious” Jurgen Klopp for turning Liverpool into the best attacking side in the Premier League.

Despite not playing the club anymore, Alonso still keeps a keen eye on events at Anfield and has been impressed with what he has seen in recent weeks.

Klopp replaced Brendan Rodgers part-way through last season and at the start of his first full campaign in charge, the German looks to have the makings of an impressive outfit.

The Reds go into Saturday’s match with Crystal Palace in third place, level on points with Manchester City and Arsenal above them.

And Alonso has been especially impressed with how Klopp has embraced the culture and tradition of the city.

“It was a big boost for the city and the club to have such a prestigious manager wanting to manage Liverpool,” he told the BBC.

“He has embraced the culture of Liverpool, the tradition but also the hunger to deliver and to do something important.”

Liverpool are the Premier League’s most exciting attacking force, having scored 20 goals in their last nine games, and Alonso added: “They are so, so enjoyable to watch and they are [involved] in great games.

“They have beaten Arsenal in London and Chelsea in London as well.”
