Amad Diallo TEAMtalk

Manchester United winger Amad Diallo is back in light training and looks likely to be first-team ready once again before the end of October.

The 19-year-old has enjoyed a solid rise at Old Trafford since moving to England in a £37m move from Atalanta in January. The Ivorian winger has made seven appearances for the Red Devils – five of which have come off the bench – creating two goals.

However, the Red Devils boosted their attacking options over the summer in the shape of Jadon Sancho and Cristiano Ronaldo. Their arrivals, for £73m and £19.1m respectively, seemingly block the first-team path for Diallo.

As a result, United were prepared to allow the winger to leave on loan in the summer. To that end, an agreement with Feyenoord had been reached, much to the delight of a smiling Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.

However, an injury picked up in Diallo’s final training session at Carrington derailed the move.

United later confirmed via their official website that Diallo had ‘sustained a thigh muscle injury in training and is likely to be out for six weeks.’

With those six weeks now elapsed, Diallo is now back in light training and will step that up next week. Indeed, he’s now expected to be ready for selection in around 10 days time.

And while the Saturday 16 October clash with Leicester may come too soon, Diallo could be in contention to feature against former club Atalanta in the Champions League on Wednesday 20 October.

His return to contention, however, does not guarantee selection of course. Solskjaer has a plethora of attacking options at his disposal, not least the rejuvenated Jesse Lingard.

As a result, Fabrizio Romano claims United will again consider letting Diallo leave on loan in January. The trusted transfer source claims many clubs will be alerted to the news, suggesting strong competition for his signature.

Six things the new owners need to do at Newcastle United

United to make Pellistri decision

Meanwhile, United are set to make a decision over whether to recall another young winger Facundo Pellistri struggling to make an impact with Alaves.

The young attacker returned to Alaves over the summer after a successful loan there last term. Pellistri became a key player as Alaves finished 16th in the table, avoiding relegation by four points in the process.

United allowed the 19-year-old to head back to Spain to gain more valuable top-flight experience after deciding he would struggle to get game time under Solskjaer.

However, things look to be turning sour for the youngster. Indeed, Noticias de Álava reports that Pellistri has ‘not yet made himself useful’ for Alaves.

Miguel de la Fuente has since usurped Pellistri in the Alaves team. His first-team chances will also face another blow when Edgar Méndez returns after the international break.

That will leave United with a decision to make over whether to recall the attacker in January. Should they do, then a loan move elsewhere looks to be on the cards.
