Ancelotti explains why he has faith in struggling Everton striker Kean

Moise Kean Everton TEAMtalk

Everton manager Carlo Ancelotti says “great talent” Moise Kean has what it takes to shrug off his poor form and succeed at Goodison Park.

Kean was an exciting signing from Juventus last summer in a deal that could reach £37million.

After setting himself a target of seven goals this season, however, he has only managed one strike in 22 Premier League games.

As such, his future has been the subject of speculation and TEAMtalk revealed earlier this year how the Toffees offered Kean to Lazio in a potential swap deal.

Speaking to Radio Radio, however, Ancelotti insisted that Kean has the talent to succeed under his stewardship.

I believe that Moise Kean has many great qualities,” the manager said.

“He is a great talent and, as I said many times, today’s football must surely be based on talent.

“However, it must be supported by great character, professionalism and personality. He’s very young and a serious boy, who is always available.

“I’m sure he will do well.”

It has largely been an unsuccessful season for the Everton’s summer recruits.

As well as Kean, full-back Jean-Philippe Gbamin and Andre Gomes, who made his loan move permanent, have struggled.

Gbamin, who signed from Mainz, suffered a hamstring injury in only his second appearance in August.

And, after recovering during football’s shutdown, he encountered an Achilles problem which will extend his stay on the sidelines.

Gomes, meanwhile, suffered a fracture dislocation of his right ankle in a clash with Tottenham in November.

Unlike Gbamin, the Spaniard has fully recovered and made his return in February.

EVERTON’S RETURN TO ACTION

Everton will to return to action on June 21 against Liverpool in the Merseyside derby.

Calls for a neutral venue to host the fixture have been rife, with fears that fans would crowd outside Goodison Park.

Authorities will make a decision on where to host the game later this week.

After that, Everton’s next two games see them face strugglers Norwich and high-flying Leicester.
