Ancelotti confirms exciting Everton contract update; offers big Joshua King boost

Everton manager Carlo Ancelotti says that French left-back Lucas Digne will sign his new contract at Goodison Park next week.

Digne has been in talks over a new deal, which will extend his terms past summer 2023, for some time.

However, the 27-year-old suffered a damaging ankle injury in November, which halted progress in negotiations.

As such, those talks have continued since his return to fitness in January. Speaking in Friday’s latest press conference, Ancelotti gave another promising update on the situation.

“I’m not in there but I know, I think next week, they agreed,” the Italian told reporters (via the Liverpool Echo).

“I think next week he is going to sign officially a new contract.”

While Digne has settled over his future at Everton, uncertainty remains over how the Toffees will manage without Dominic Calvert-Lewin.

The England international had returned to form with goals against Leeds and Tottenham. However, he encountered a hamstring problem in the 5-4 FA Cup win over Spurs.

As such, Ancelotti said that January deadline-day signing Joshua King could take his place in Sunday’s clash with Fulham.

“I think Joshua King can play in that position, but as a winger also,” Ancelotti said (via the Liverpool Echo).

“Of course, without Calvert-Lewin there is the possibility to put him in the first XI. It is a strong possibility, of course.

“His physical condition is good and his adaptation to the team is working well.”

Ancelotti also said that he hoped that Brazilian Richarlison has shaken off his recent spell of poor form.

The forward netted twice against Spurs, putting in a solid display.

“I think we can say he is back,” his manager said. “He had a lot of problems in the first part of the season but after the performance against Tottenham we can say he is back.

“It is pleasing because everybody knows he is a really important player for us.”
