Ancelotti ready to axe £5m-a-year Everton star; orders Brands to find new keeper

Carlo Ancelotti TEAMtalk

New Everton boss Carlo Ancelotti wants a new goalkeeper and is ready to dump Gylfi Sigurdsson this month, according to a report.

The Sun reports that Italian boss Ancelotti has “ordered director of football Marcel Brands to find him a top-class goalkeeper”.

It’s understood that Ancelotti wants to put pressure on the England number one, who has had a mixed season at Goodison Park.

Pickford, 25, was mocked by Liverpool fans after Curtis Jones’ angled shot from outside the box beat him to give a young Liverpool side a 1-0 win in the FA Cup clash against Everton.

Pickford mocked him for a “great cross” in the tunnel after the game, but Ancelotti is not believed to be convinced by the former Sunderland keeper and his long-term future could well be in doubt at Goodison.

Ancelotti is believed to have read the riot act to his squad at Anfield and, per the source, he has already lost patience with 30-year-old Sigurdsson.

The report claims the boss “has already given up on” the Iceland star, who has 18 months to run on his £5m-a-year contract.

Asked if he was worried about his future after the cup defeat, Sigurdsson told the Daily Mail: “It’s not up to me to decide that. Everyone is totally disappointed. I think the players are all different people in how they deal with the loss. It’s one of those things.”

Cenk Tosun is also believed to be heading to Crystal Palace, while Theo Walcott, Morgan Schneiderlin and Michael Keane could find themselves surplus to requirements.
