Arsene Wenger: Set to miss out on Julian Draxler

Arsenal have failed to land another major target after Wolfsburg confirmed Julian Draxler will join PSG in January, subject to a medical.

The confirmation from the Bundesliga club came after a photo of the German international holding a PSG shirt with the number 23 on the back was leaked earlier on social media.

The 23-year-old, who was strongly linked with a move to the Gunners after declaring in the summer that he saw Wolfsburg as nothing more than a “stepping stone” in his career, has signed a four-year deal with the Ligue 1 champions and will join when the transfer window re-opens in January.

On Draxler’s departure, Wolfsburg head coach Valerien Ismael said: “Of course I’m sad to see Julian go, because he’s an outstanding footballer.

“He gave everything in the recent matches against Frankfurt and Gladbach and once again showed how much this club meant to him. I hope his move to France provides him with a fresh challenge.”

Draxler will depart the Bundesliga having made 153 appearances, scoring 23 goals in the process.
