Chelsea have confirmed Danny Drinkwater has joined Turkish club Kasimpasa on loan until the end of the season.
England midfielder Drinkwater joined Chelsea from Leicester for £35million in 2017. However, he has struggled badly at Stamford Nridge and has made just 23 appearances in all competitions.
Drinkwater has not featured in Chelsea’s first team since the 2018 Community Shield clash with Manchester City.
The 30-year-old had been training with Chelsea’s Under-23s. He was sent off in a development team match against Tottenham in December.
“Danny Drinkwater will go out on loan for the remainder of this season. Good luck Danny!” Chelsea posted on their club twitter account.
It’s yet another fresh start for the former England midfielder.
He also had loans with Burnley and Aston Villa last season, but only managed a total of six appearances.
Drinkwater opens up on troubles
The 30-year-old was banned from driving for two years in May 2019 and even headbutted teammate Jota in a loan spell at Aston Villa last year.
Now he has pledged to put his career back on track, insisting he wants regular first-team football above anything else.
“It is a trust thing, for me. I’m definitely a closed book and that’s extended through most of my life, not just football,” Drinkwater told The Telegraph back in September.
“That’s 100 per cent cost me in terms of what people think of me and it’s cost me in terms of my injuries and fitness over the past few years because I haven’t put enough trust in what the experts have been telling me.
“Look, I know my Chelsea move hasn’t worked out how anybody would have wanted and I’ve made mistakes, but it’s not as simple as me just not playing football or picking up a wage. Money doesn’t solve anything. The pay cheque doesn’t really help at all, you don’t even think about money.”
