Brazil star informed his constant ‘idiotic behaviour’ will cost him dream Liverpool transfer

Antony wins Olympic Gold with Brazil in Tokyo 2022

Ajax attacker Antony has been informed by two former Netherlands internationals that his antics are likely to deny his chances of ever making a dream switch, with Liverpool among his suitors.

The Brazil forward has been the standout star for Erik Ten Hag’s side this season, with some superb displays. Indeed, the 22-year-old has 12 goals and 10 assists in 33 appearances for the club, earmarking him as one of the jewels in the Dutch giants’ crown. However, his excellent form has drawn admiring glances from a number of big-hitting suitors.

Indeed, a report earlier this month claimed Arsenal, Newcastle and Manchester United are all preparing summer approaches. Furthermore, Bayern Munich are also reportedly long-term admirers.

There are also long-standing links with Liverpool. To that end, he was once again mentioned as a potential target for Jurgen Klopp just last month.

Antony is seen as another potential new recruit to Liverpool’s attack. With Diogo Jota now well established and Luiz Diaz also recently signing, the capture of Antony could see the Reds play an entirely new combination up front.

However, question marks remain over Antony’s mindset and whether he is entirely suitable to Liverpool.

Indeed, more questions were asked about his mentality following his latest goal for Ajax. That came when he scored an 87th-minute winner for Ajax in their come-from-behind win over Feyenoord. Following his winner, Antony removed his shirt and stood on the advertising hoardings, earning a booking in the process.

Liverpool’s April defined by crucial two weeks

Liverpool’s April defined by crucial two weeks

Liverpool face a gruelling April schedule as they seek to win a quadruple this season, but a crucial two weeks defines the month for Jurgen Klopp’s side.

He was then booked again by the referee shortly after, leading to his stoppage-time dismissal.

Questions asked about Antony actions

As such, former Netherlands international Rene van der Gijp reckons his idiotic actions will put off many of his suitors and deny him his dream move.

“Suppose we are in the stands together as a scout for Manchester City or Liverpool… And we are looking at Antony, what do you think we would say when we come back on Monday?” Van der Gijp told Vandaag Inside (via Sport Witness).

“We will not take that. You don’t see a Serge Gnabry, Leroy Sane or Mohamed Salah doing this? Then you can say: he is young, but it can also get crazier.”

Wim Kieft, another former Holland player, insists Antony is now at an age where he should know better.

“He is not that young anymore, because he has been doing this for two years. Such a boy cannot be calmed by a coach, in the end,” Kieft said,

“Ten Hag will of course never say that Antony behaves like an idiot, but he thinks so. In general, this behaviour is addressed in the locker room, then someone says: hey, what are you doing?”
