Arkadiusz Milik has sent a clear message to the likes of Tottenham and Everton by admitting he is waiting for the next transfer window.

Milik was expected to leave Napoli during the summer transfer market. However, a move to Roma fell through despite undergoing a medical – which opened an opportunity for Premier League suitors.

Tottenham and Everton were among those to be linked. Spurs were on the lookout for a backup to Harry Kane, and Everton boss Carlo Ancelotti had worked with him before in Naples.

However, Milik was unable to secure a move away from the Serie A side. It has put him in a difficult situation, as Napoli have left him out of their squads for Serie A and the Europa League.

The striker scored 11 goals in Serie A last season, despite only starting 19 games. However, despite his efficient return, he has fallen down the pecking order at the Stadio San Paolo.

Therefore, he will be looking to move on at the next available opportunity. Even though his contract expires in the summer, he could force through a move in January.

Speaking while on international duty with Poland, the 26-year-old admitted he is confident of keeping up his form even without playing, as he hopes to attract interest from other clubs.

“Now, I’ll wait for the next transfer window and I hope the clubs can find and understanding,” Milik told Sportowefakty.pl (via Football Italia).

“Physically I’m fine, I have trained well individually.

“I will play matches with the national side. In three months, my form won’t be too much affected.”

Milik admits last season was strange

While Milik will not be playing club football until January 2021 at the earliest, the last season in which he did play was also unusual.

There was turmoil off the field in the first few months of the season, which led to Gennaro Gattuso replacing Ancelotti as head coach.

Napoli eventually turned things around and won the Coppa Italia to ensure entry into the Europa League. In the process, Milik won the first trophy of his career.

However, looking back, the former Ajax forward admits it was a turbulent campaign.

“It was a strange year due to the pandemic,” he said. “Our performances weren’t the best, since we finished seventh.

“We went through a very difficult moment, also due to the change of coach. Then there was the break due to the coronavirus.

“But the season ended in good style and I won the first trophy in my career.”
