Arsenal technical director Edu has got personally involved after raising the prospect of a tempting swap deal with Lyon, according to a report.
The Gunners are expected to be one of the busier players in the summer transfer window.
But with The Emirates’ warchest once again restricted in size, boss Mikel Arteta will have to get creative.
One avenue he could pursue surrounds the idea of swap or cash-plus-player deals.
And if Arteta is to ensure new signing Willian is joined by further arrivals, current player exits are a neccessity.
One man who could depart is holding midffielder Matteo Guendouzi.
The Frenchman appeared set for a bright future in North London at one stage, but has fallen foul of Arteta amid reported disciplinary problems.
With Thomas Partey once again linked, Guendouzi is now seen as expendable.
Now, according to The Metro (who cite French publication L’Equipe), Arsenal technical director has intervened on Arteta’s behalf.
The outlet state that Edu has ‘proposed a swap deal that would see Arsenal also pay Lyon a fee’ for Houssem Aouar.
Aouar, 22, has been the subject of speculation linking him with both Arsenal and Man City. Lyon’s sporting director Juninho Pernambucano recently added fuel to the fire with his latest comments regarding Aouar’s departure.
Lyon reportedly favour a cash-only deal, though the club could be willing to compromise after suffering financially during coronavirus

The president of Lille has revealed that Arsenal and Everton target Gabriel Magalhaes is leaving the club this summer.
Gabriel has become one of the most in-demand defenders in Europe from his performances over the past season for Lille.
The Brazilian centre-back is on the radar of several clubs – including Premier League trio Arsenal, Everton and Manchester United.
In fact, Everton have even had a bid rejected for the defender. Lille’s reason for turning it down was because they have a “gentlemen’s agreement” to sell him to Napoli.
