Arsenal ‘closing in on’ second summer signing

Arsenal “are closing in on” their second summer signing with Monaco winger Thomas Lemar heading for The Emirates, according to a report.

Arsenal are “growing increasingly confident” that a move can be completed for the 21-year-old winger, according to the Daily Mail.

Talks have been held with Monaco and have “begun smoothly” and Arsenal “do not expect any major hitches” for the player.

Monaco rate Lemar at around £30million, while Tottenham have also been linked with an interest.

The report claims “talks have begun smoothly” with Monaco, who rate Lemar in the £30million bracket.

Despite not being able to offer Champions League football next season Lemar is keen to play for Arsene Wenger and the French boss is believed to be a firm admirer of the former Caen winger.

Lemar, who has a contract until 2020, scored 14 goals and assisted a further 17 in 55 games last season as Monaco won the Ligue 1 title and reached the Champions League semi-finals.

Wenger has signed just one first-team player so far this summer, with left-back Sead Kolasinac arriving on a free transfer from Schalke.
