Carrasco deal on for Arsenal as winger yearns for exit from CSL outfit

Yannick Carrasco TEAMtalk

Arsenal are one of several clubs reported to be plotting a January move for Yannick Carrasco, according to reports in Italy.

The 25-year-old winger surprised plenty in January of this year when he opted to leave Atletico Madrid for Chinese side Dalian Yifang.

Although Carrasco has caught the eye with some solid displays, scoring three times in 11 games, it’s claimed the Belgian has failed to settle in the Far East and is looking for a return to Europe when the transfer window reopens in January.

Calciomercato reports that, along with the Gunners, Juventus, Roma, Inter Milan and Napoli are also tracking the player, who will cost in the region of €25m.

Carrasco, who netted in the 2016 Champions League final for Atletico Madrid, opted for a move to China in February despite interest from Napoli.

Explaining his decision to move to the Far East at the time, Carrasco said: “I decided to leave Atletico and start a new adventure with Dalian Yifang, to join the Wanda group project.

“The Chinese championship is booming, the working conditions are excellent, the new infrastructures are modern and they are available for both players and fans.

“The level of play improves every season.

“The project and offer of the club are a great sign of confidence and respect, and represent an opportunity to develop my qualities and my future.”

However, it seems a return to Europe beckons for Carrasco after less than a year in the CSL. Should Arsenal boss Unai Emery follow up his initial interest in the player, then a move to London with Arsenal could prove a strong lure for the player, who can play across the midfield and would offer width and guile to the Arsenal side.
