Arsenal have reportedly identified the youngest coach in Bundesliga history to replace Arsene Wenger at The Emirates.

The Gunners are being strongly tipped to part company with Wenger following their shambolic display in the Carabao Cup final against Manchester City and the likelihood that they will miss out on a top-for spot in the Premier League again.

Former Chelsea boss Carlo Ancelotti has been rumoured as a short-term replacement for the Frenchman but it is Hoffenheim boss Julian Nagelsmann who is being lined-up a longer-term option, according to an exclusive report in the Daily Star.

Nagelsmann, 30, has become one of the hottest prospects in coaching since taking charge at the German outfit two years ago.

And new Arsenal head of recruitment, Sven Mislintat, is understood to be pushing for the north London giants to go for the rookie boss already nicknamed ‘Baby Mourinho’.

When he was given the job by Hoffenheim aged just 28 – becoming the youngest coach in Bundesliga history as a result – the team were struggling in 17th in the table and facing relegation.

Under him they avoided relegation before finishing fourth last season to qualify for the Champions League for the first time in their history.

While this season hasn’t hit the same heights, Nagelsmann’s football philosophy is said to be seen as an ideal match for the Gunners.

Wenger, himself, admitted for the first time that the final decision over his future could be taken out of his hands after the loss to City – although he intends to battle on.

He said: “You try to master what you can master. What is above you… you will not decide your future in your newspapers, and I am exactly like you.

“I am an employee and I give my best for my club that I love.

“The decision has technically always been mine. I am just amazed that I have to always answer things that are exactly the same. I turned the whole world down to respect my contracts.”
