Arsenal, Liverpool beaten to the punch as Inter Milan make contract offer for dynamic forward target

Alassane Plea, Marcus Thuram, Borussia Monchengladbach celebrate a goal against Hertha Berlin in Bundesliga

Arsenal, Liverpool and Tottenham look to have been beaten to the punch by Inter Milan in their efforts to land a Bundesliga forward this summer.

The Italian giants are known to have working on a deal for Borussia Monchengladbach attacker Marcus Thuram for some time and want to secure his signature before his contract expires at the end of the campaign.

The Nerazzurri actually wanted to bring the France international to the San Siro back in the summer of 2021. However, they decided to turn Joaquin Correa after Thuram suffered a knee ligament injury.

Talks between Inter and Thuram’s entourage did not stop, however. Indeed, they are said to have continued throughout the early months of this season, including at the World Cup in Qatar, where Thuram made some impressive cameos for France.

As reported by Calciomercato.com, Inter have drawn up a contract for Thuram, taking advantage of the Growth Decree.

The Growth Decree was approved in 2019 to facilitate the signings of superstars in Serie A. And that has enabled Inter to offer Thuram a salary of €10m gross per season, plus add-ons.

The 25-year-old has already verbally accepted the offer. However, the Nerazzurri couldn’t agree a deal with Monchengladbach to sign him last month.

But following that green light on the original offer, Inter are now very confident of securing Thuram’s signature on a pre-contract.

Inter hoping to avoid Bremer repeat

They are also taking extra precautions over the deal to avoid a repeat of the Gleison Bremer situation from last summer.

Inter had agreed to the terms of a deal with the Brazilian centre-back in January 2022. However, when it came to the summer, Juventus jumped in to hijack their deal and take Bremer to Turin.

As far as English interest in Thuram, that has been around since last summer.

Arsenal, Liverpool and Spurs have all been keen on a deal, especially for a soon to be a free agent.

However, it looks as if their hopes have been completely scuppered by Inter for a player who has scored 13 goals and added four assists this season.

In total, Thuram has scored 65 times in 275 career games, but it’s only since his move to Germany that he has been consistent in front of goal.
