TEAMtalk understands Liverpool and Arsenal have enquired to Southampton about left-back Matt Targett.
Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp is looking for competition for Andy Robertson after the departure of Alberto Moreno and the former England Under-21 man is being considered.
Arsenal chief Unai Emery is being forced to wheel and deal this summer and Targett could be in his price range as he looks to inject some youth into his Emirates squad.
However, a host of other clubs are ready to make a move for the 23-year-old, who has been told by Southampton that they will sell him for the right price as they are keeping first-choice Ryan Bertrand.
Leicester, Newcastle, newly-promoted Aston Villa and Fulham, who made a bid to sign him last summer, have all spoken with the Saints about a possible deal.
Targett would no doubt consider a move to Anfield, but it is believed England’s coaches have encouraged him to seek regular first-team football in a bid to push for a senior international place in the future.
Targett started just 13 Premier League games at St Mary’s last season and made 21 appearances in all competitions after playing on loan at Fulham in 2017/18 campaign.
